Tonight?s Bermuda One Love concert plans to take patrons on a path of dance hall?s yesteryear.

Charlie Chaplin and URoy are the headlining performers in the ?Old School Dance Hall? event, said director of Startime Productions Eugene Dean.

?Well, this event as it is titled is an opportunity to turn back the clock and to provide people with the opportunity to experience Dance Hall in its original form,? said the promoter.

?URoy is the grandfather of all deejays, he is the original and the Sturgav Sound System is his sound, which is a veteran sound.

?Both Uroy and Charlie Chaplin are veterans and URoy is actually in his 60s and Charlie is about 49 or 50. These guys have been around performing for a long time and you can see one time the difference in the vibe of the music.

?For instance Charlie comes on and proclaims one time that he deals with no slackness, ?I am not up here talking about no girls, and no gun business?.

?He is speaking righteousness in his music. It is the difference in the nature of the time, and today our environment has changed and the music reflects that.?

This concert will be in the form of a Dance Hall, although the last two concerts featured live bands.

?We have two events in this series that are outside of the standard concert format and this is an old school dance,? he said, ?And on August 12 we have Splash Out, which is a beach party.

?The tickets for this event are only $30 and $40 at the gate, so we are making it more affordable for people to come out and the artists are world class.?

The local performers are Spear Chucka, Shorta Ranks, Ninja Cutty and Gomez of Loc Tight.

Mr. Dean has found that the concert patrons are generally younger.

?We have found that the more mature crowd has tended to shy away from productions for numerous reasons, which we understand,? he said.

?One being the violence that was happening and also the lack of quality at productions, the standard had dropped drastically, and also the uncertainty of whether an artist was really coming in, and (the question of) was there going to be a fight.

?But we have come to the table in an effort to address that, the concert series is the Bermuda One Love concert series and we have a track record of having events which are incident free.

?We are looking to develop the industry and are looking to provide opportunities for people and we have received a lot of positive comments about our shows thus far. The positive vibe that they feel and violence has been the last thing on people?s minds.

?I say that with this show in particular, we are making a very strong appeal for more the mature concert goer to come out and enjoy the show with the younger concert goer.

?This is how we learn and how we grow from being around older people, rather than leaving our youth out there. In addition to that, we need people to start coming back out.?

Because of the peaceful vibe at the Bermuda One Love Concerts the Police have agreed to stay off of our events, said Mr. Dean.

?They have looked at the way we have secured our events and they said they are comfortable with it. We have also shared with them what our goals are and our interests and to date the Police were at the first concert and they drove by and left.?

Tickets $30 are available at Logic, on Burnaby Street, Spanish Town Entertainment, King Street, Dub City Boutique and Eru-Atile on Court Street.

Gates open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 10 p.m.
