A year after setting up his own cleaning and restoration business, Mike Medeiros has taken the next step and opened an office and retail space in Mill Creek Road, Pembroke.

He has more than ten years experience in the tile and stone industry, and for the last three years has been involved in restoration and cleaning work.

“I have a strong passion for cleaning and restoration. I’m very familiar with the materials used in Bermuda and I’ve worked with architects and designers,” said Mr Medeiros, who operates KAM Restoration/Cleaning Solutions.

Many Bermuda properties have decorative stonework in some form, either inside or out. Mr Medeiros said KAM wants to help people protect and enhance their investments.

“In this economic climate most people can’t afford to put in new surfaces. That’s where our passion comes in. We do our best to clean and restore existing surfaces,” he said.

“What differentiates us is our use of the correct materials and techniques. We are cautious not to damage clients’ surfaces. We work to get surfaces back to the best condition.”

According to Mr Medeiros there are a number of things that set KAM apart from other cleaning businesses. One is its use of diamond polishing, a more natural way of giving a variety of surfaces a good finish. The business also does its upmost not to use harmful chemicals.

And the business offers a range of services beyond stonework cleaning and restoration, this includes porcelain and ceramic tile cleaning, grout cleaning, and tile sealing, to re-grouting, patio and pool deck cleaning and sealing, brick and paver cleaning and sealing and carpet cleaning and carpet pile lifting. The business, which has a staff of three, also offers wet and dry carpet cleaning options.

“We take great pride in our work, making homes and businesses look and feel better.”

A range of cleaning products and machines are stocked by KAM, and many of the products are environmentally friendly. Mr Medeiros explained that, like many of his customers, he takes a responsible attitude towards the environment. “We have one of the largest selections of green and environmental products. These products give a strong performance. People today are more conscious of the environment and what is better for their health and safety.”

Despite being in business for a year, KAM had no physical presence until April when it took over a space above ESC Ltd on Mill Creek Road. The first-floor location was previously used by the Orange Bay Company.

“I wanted a place where people could come in and book jobs from us, or buy supplies. It is important to have an identity and a physical base,” said Mr Medeiros.

“We offer free consulting. The public can some in and ask about maintenance and we can give them advice.

“We have good vendors that offer products for anything to do with cleaning.”

The retail side of the business is geared towards both commercial and residential customers. A range of cleaning products are displayed, alongside cleaning machines, burnishers and autoscrubbers.

If a customer is a seeking a specific piece of equipment, the business can order it.

While KAM already has a client base that includes hotels, companies and private residences, Mr Medeiros wants the business to be known as the best in Bermuda and to be the first company people think of when they have fine finishes to do.

“I want KAM to be a household name,” he said.

It helps that the business has a name that is easy to remember; it is made from the initials of Mr Medeiros’s daughter Katelyn, his wife Anne and his own.

As for running his own business after many years of working for other people, Mr Medeiros said: “It is like a dream. It’s been the best rollercoaster ride, and we are just tapping into our potential. We have a lot more to offer.”
