There was a worthy purpose to the fun and somewhat crazy pursuits witnessed at the second Xtreme Sports Games.

Companies and organisations competed against one another at a variety of sports, including bubble football, zorb racing and human bowling.

After finishing third last year, KPMG went two better this time to win. Its team has presented the $5,000 prize money to the Centre Against Abuse.

The Games was expanded this year in terms of events and teams, with 20 taking part at day of fun at the National Sports Centre’s North Field.

Although blustery winds were a factor on the day, it did not distract from the fun.

Among new games this year was football darts, where players score points by kicking a Velcro covered football at a giant inflatable dartboard. Caterpillar racing was also introduced, with teams having to sit on an inflatable caterpillar and wiggle and waddle along a course.

Event organiser Marquel Waldron, of Xtreme Sports Ltd, said he was delighted that the event hit its target of attracting 20 teams. Among participants were HSBC Bermuda, Butterfield Bank, Artex, Ironshore, Endurance, JLT, Aon Group Bermuda, Marsh Management, SunLife Financial, Freisenbruch Meyer Group, BAS Group, and Oil Group of Companies.

Mr Waldron said one of the attractions of the event is to giving companies and organisations an opportunity to reward staff and participate in fun team-bonding activities, while also promoting health and fitness.

He said the after-event survey showed that all the teams enjoyed themselves.

And he hopes that companies and groups will reach out to Xtreme Games Ltd to arrange their own fun day events and team-bonding activities.

Christine Terceira, team captain of this year’s winners KPMG, said: “KPMG was excited to compete in the Xtreme Sports Games for its second year.

“The event was very well organised with more companies competing this year and new games added into the mix.

“After a fun day of friendly competition with the other 19 companies, we were thrilled to come out on top to win $5,000 for the Centre Against Abuse.

“We would like to thank Xtreme Sports for hosting another successful event, and we look forward to competing next year.”

Laurie Shiell, of the Centre Against Abuse, watched the event on April 1. She said: “It’s a fun day and I want to tank KPMG choosing us as the recipients of the prize. This will assist is with the services we provide.”
