Changes are afoot at Standard Hardware, the Bakery Lane supplier to the island’s contracting community.

Manager and part-owner David Cassidy confirmed that he is to retire.

“I am one of several shareholders, so we’re in the process of seeing where we go from here,” Mr Cassidy said.

Standard, which carries hardware, appliances and plumbing supplies, has been in business for more than 50 years.

Mr Cassidy confirmed that the island’s economic environment has impacted the business. “We are the same as everyone else in the retail section,” he said. “We have challenges like everyone else.”

Mr Cassidy declined to say when he will retire.
