Dakari White’s podium display at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, last month has created new opportunities for the Bermudian semi-professional motorcycle racer.

The 25-year-old was invited to make a guest appearance on a live television broadcast during the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours last weekend as reward for placing third in the 600cc open class in Valencia.

During the broadcast, White got an opportunity to really connect with his supporters and promote Bermuda, as well as commentate during the SuperSport 600 race.

“This is a live show that happens during the World SBK Championship races in the paddock,” White told The Royal Gazette. “This was the French round at Magny Cours.

“After my podium in Valencia, I was invited by Michael Hill, the host of the show, to be a guest during the SuperSport 600 race.

“I used the opportunity to introduce myself to the fans. We spoke on things like Bermuda’s location, size and racing culture.

“The fans seemed very interested in Bermuda and afterwards a few of them came to speak to me. I look forward to bringing more awareness to our island and what we have to offer.

“All in all, it was a great experience. Seeing the fans so eager to listen to me and the applause was a great feeling.

“It felt good to be the first Bermudian on that stage and be able to promote our island.

“I also spoke on making the big move from local racing in Bermuda to Europe and when the race started, it was fun to commentate on the race what was going on.

“There was a championship on the line, so the race was very exciting and a lot of points calculating and things going on.”

White will have his work cut out for him when he makes the step up to the more competitive Spanish CEV Supersport championship at Jerez this month.

“The skill level is much higher and getting a result here will be much harder,” he said. “But I am very happy to receive this opportunity and be able to learn and compete at this level.”

White has been reduced to making cameo appearances in Spain this season because of a lack of funding.

He is actively pursuing sponsorship and has created a GoFundMe online account where donations can be made to support his cause.

“This is a very expensive sport and it’s hard to be competitive without the support of sponsors,” he said.
