A 38-year-old man has died after crashing his motorcycle into Flatts Bridge shortly after midnight yesterday.

The Pembroke man lost control of his cycle while riding along North Shore Road towards Flatts Village, and was catapulted into the ocean.

Bermuda Police Service officers were called at 12.13am and conducted an unsuccessful search for the man, with both its Marine Section and private vessels scouring the area until 3am.

Police returned to the scene at about 8.30am, after Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo workers discovered the man’s body washed up against rocks beneath the wallaby exhibit.

Officers and aquarium staff attended the scene both on foot and by boat, and recovered the body at about 8.55am.

After the victim was identified at 9.25am, several dozen of the man’s friends and family arrived at the aquarium to mourn his loss.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said that the man’s name would not be revealed until his next of kin had been fully notified.
