Cookie giveaway earns young chef Lido chance

Budding young chef Tylar Jones has made a great impression since he started working at Lido restaurant.

For budding young chef Tylar Jones it all started with his handmade cookies.

The 15-year-old CedarBridge student’s kind-hearted decision to take in his trademark biscuits to the on-campus Noble Auto garage has given him the opportunity to learn from some of the best pastry chefs in the business.

The Noble Auto staff were so blown away by his cookies that they contacted Lido chef Serge Bottelli, who promptly called the teenager to ask if he wanted to join the team to gain some experience in the kitchen. Tylar impressed the chefs and spent last Christmas and this Easter holidays picking up tips from the restaurant’s pastry department. He has even served the guests’ buffet.

“I have really discovered a passion for this kind of work since my time at Lido,” Tylar said.

“It has been a great experience and I have picked up all kinds of tricks of the trade from the chefs.

“I was a little nervous to begin with, but everyone has been very helpful at Lido.”

Mr Bottelli told The Royal Gazette that he had been extremely impressed by the teenager’s attitude and efforts.

“We have all been very impressed with him,” Mr Bottelli said. “He is still very young but is eager to learn and enthusiastic.

“He joined us for a few weeks over last summer and also the Easter just gone. We hope he’ll be back again in the summer coming.”

Tylar says he hopes to pursue a degree in the hospitality industry once he graduates from CedarBridge.

“I like the idea of going to the UK after I graduate and taking a hospitality degree.

“After that anything is possible, I’ll have to wait and see how it ends up.

“For the moment I am learning as much as I can.”
