Children’s charity song hits the right note

Raising awareness: Gita Blakeney Saltus and Sheelagh Cooper (Photograph supplied)

A song about the pledge of adults to care for children has won an “overwhelming response” on Bermuda’s airwaves, according to the Coalition for the Protection of Children.

The Promise, a duet between Gita Blakeney Saltus and Preston Swan, is now available for sale online, with the proceeds to be divided between the coalition and the addiction treatment service, Pathways Bermuda.

“We launched it now because this is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the song makes a promise to love and nurture and protect our children,” said Sheelagh Cooper, chairwoman of the coalition.

“The song was written for the Coalition for the Protection of Children and beautifully sung. It was arranged and recorded by John Woolridge.

“We have had lots of inquiries from people wanting to buy copies of it. We are pleased to announce that it is now available on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby.”

The song can also be found on the websites of both organisations.

Ms Blakeney Saltus, the executive director of Pathways, said the chance to partner with the coalition through musical collaboration “highlights the moral imperative that we have as a community to protect and prepare our children for a bright and healthy future”.

“This project will hopefully bring an awareness of our respective causes as we work to create spaces for healing and betterment of the those whom we serve.”
