Students met with the international cast of Up With People yesterday as part of a culture fair.

The event, held at the Berkeley Institute, allowed hundreds of students to chat to the group’s members about their home counties and their cultures. Cast member Nikki Smith, from China, said she had been thrilled by the welcoming nature of people on the island, along with Bermuda’s beauty.

“It’s an amazing thing for us, to go around the world and not only see other cultures but to show them ours. To see how they react to our culture and what they are interested in,” she said.

“A lot of people have asked me to write down their names in Chinese for them. I even had one say she wanted to get it as a tattoo.”

Belgian cast member Florence Crabbé said she had been using Belgian football stars to help highlight her country.

“They all seem very interested,” she said. “A lot of people have been coming up to our booth. It’s just a little different from what they are used to every day.”

The cast — including Bermudian member Zachary Kawaley-Lathan — are set to perform at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts from today.
