The American Airlines flight to Miami today has been delayed following a fire on its rear wheels.

The incident at LF Wade International Airport happened yesterday when the plane was empty, and was successfully tackled before the fire service arrived at about 11.30am.

Today, the American Airlines 8.55am flight to Miami has been delayed to 1pm. Its expected arrival time in Miami has been put back from 10.52am to 2.57pm.

In a statement yesterday, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service media relations officer, Sergeant Russann Francis, said: “The passenger flight having recently landed and parked at apron four did not have any souls on board.

“Surrounding vehicles have been moved as a precautionary measure.

“Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service was standing by on scene with six vehicles and nine personnel to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and will remain on scene to monitor the extinguished area during the natural cooling process.”

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
