Bus cancellations expected

Bus passengers should expect cancellations this morning, the Department of Public Transportation has warned.

This means that, after yesterday’s additional cancellations, 39 of Bermuda’s 105 buses are sidelined with mechanical issues — or 37 per cent of the total fleet.

Ten routes were cancelled yesterday morning between 7.10am and 8.30am due to safety checks, after a wheel came off a bus on Friday in Sandys.

The incident prompted the Department to remove six buses of the same make and year from service, to determine if they require replacement parts.

This morning’s cancellations are:

• 7.10am #10, Fort Langton to Flatts

• 7.15am #3, Flatts to Hamilton

• 7.25am #8, Watford Bridge to Hamilton

• 7.37am #1, Grotto Bay to Barnes Corner

• 7.39am #7, Barnes Corner to CedarBridge

• 7.44am #8, Barnes Corner to CedarBridge

• 7.45am #3, Grotto Bay to Cedarbridge

• 7.47am #5, Hamilton to Pond Hill

• 7.50am #10, Grotto Bay to CedarBridge

• 7.57am #5, St.Monica’s to Hamilton

• 8.20am #8, Hamilton to Barnes Corner

• 8.30am #8, Hamilton to Barnes Corner

• 8.38am #3, Flatts to Hamilton

• 9.04am #7, Barnes Corner to Hamilton

A DPT spokesman said yesterday: “The intent is to have these vehicles back in service as quickly as possible.

“Seventy-eight buses per day are required to cover the existing 12 routes, and an additional eight buses for sightseeing tours.

“The DPT apologises for the inconvenience to the public, but remains committed to providing the safest public transportation system to its users.”
