Half of the City Hall Car Park is expected to reopen today, with work on the second half hoped to be completed by the end of the week.

While Mayor Charles Gosling had expressed hopes that work on the parking lot would be completed before the end of June, Ed Benevides, the chief operating officer for the City of Hamilton, said that the project had hit delays.

“The original start was delayed a week and since then we have had a number of delays caused by weather and availability of our asphalt vendor,” he said.

“We expect half of City Hall Car Park to be open tomorrow with pay and display. The remaining half we hope by the end of the week.”

Mr Benevides further said that a barrier system — hoped by the municipality to increase parking revenues — is expected to come online by mid-August.
