Police officer injured in Devonshire crash

A police officer is being treated in hospital for leg injuries after a crash on Palmetto Road this afternoon.

According to a police spokeswoman, a police motorcycle and a car collided just outside of the Tynes Bay Incinerator at about 4.15pm.

“The vehicles were reported to be travelling in opposite directions when they became involved in a collision.

“The police officer was conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for leg injuries. The driver of the motor car was not injured.”

The scene was processed by traffic accident investigators, resulting in “brief” delays.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Sergeant Astwood on 247-1009.
