Rosa’s restaurant is continuing to support those in need by raising money for The Chewstick Foundation.

The Mexican eatery has created two desserts in which all proceeds will aid the arts charity that lost its home on Front Street, along with other irreplaceable items, in the fire on July 21.

Describing the sweet treats, Lindsay Durham, Rosa’s manager, said: “The first dessert is a churro with apple crumble on the top and ice cream, and the second one is our Texas brownie sundae.

“We had the Texas brownie on our menu — we just started it a couple of weeks ago — and the churro, we thought that it would be nice with the apple crumble that I put on the inside. So, we decided to combine the two. One hundred per cent of the profits will go to Chewstick. They are amazing desserts and I will encourage everyone to try them. Chewstick founder and executive director Gavin Djata Smith, previously told The Royal Gazette: “Without significant financial support, Chewstick will become inoperable for the immediate future, and possibly for some time. We urge all members of the community to donate to this charity that has worked tirelessly over the last 13 years to empower one, and to enrich all.”

Many local businesses and organisations have heard his plight and have recently offered assistance through fundraising and events.

Ms Durham added: “We decided to support the foundation not just because of the fire, but because we are all on the same street; Gavin is a fellow Berkeleyite and we must always keep the end in view. I just feel like we always need to support the community so anything that we can do to help the community we’re there for them.”

Deidra-Lee Bean, Chewstick operations manager, said: “The Chewstick Foundation is happy that Rosa’s Cantina responded so enthusiastically to our volunteer fundraising outreach.

“We are grateful for their support in conjunction with Butterfield and Vallis, and hope that people will feed their sweet tooth to benefit the fire relief efforts.

“Community fundraising efforts like this, that continue to evolve from this tragedy are a reminder of the generous and beautiful Bermuda spirit. The Chewstick Foundation is incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported and continues to do so during this difficult time.”

Rosa’s will be selling the Texas brownie for $14 and the churro for $10.
