Public assist with marine incidents

Members of the public assisted with two marine incidents yesterday, according to the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre.

At 8.19pm, Bermuda Radio received a 911 call from a member of the public reporting a 10ft skiff adrift in the Great Sound.

VHF broadcasts were made to vessels in the area, with pilot gig John Cann offering assistance.

However, once on scene, John Cann was unable to secure the skiff because of weather conditions.

Marine Police boat Heron II was dispatched but reported that the skiff had since beached itself high on Omega Rocks and could not be recovered.

In another incident, Bermuda Radio received a 911 call at 8.37pm from the 19ft personal craft Little Lady, reportedly disabled north of Pearl Island in the Great Sound.

Bermuda Radio commenced VHF broadcasts for assistance, with vessels Play Pen and Bright Star responding.

However, personal craft Ghost was in the area, stopped and towed Little Lady back to its moorings at Mills Creek.

Play Pen and Bright Star were thanked and stood down.
