Warwick Academy Foundation is one of 12 charities which will benefit from the “Fuelling 4 a Cause” competition.

And students at the school are eager to build on the $1,000 donation which is already guaranteed for each of the charities.

People who buy gas at any of the Rubis stations between now and November 9 will receive a code and website to go to, and can then vote for one of the charities chosen.

So Warwick Academy pupils are now encouraging friends of the school to visit the website and cast their vote in their favour.

If they get the most votes they stand to win more money.

Jane Vickers, Director of Development, said: “We were invited to submit creative photos showing how Rubis gas is used by us at school. All our students and parent use gas to get the students to school, we buy gas for all our lanscaping equipment and propane for the PTA food truck that is used for all sorts of BBQ’s and events.

“We are very grateful to Rubis for the donation and we really hope that we can turn it into even more much needed funds.”

Rubis is celebrating its tenth anniversary with the “Fuelling 4 a Cause” promotion.

The company is donating 5 cents per gallon of fuel sold at its service stations.

At the end of the promotion, each organisation will receive a donation of at least $1,000, with the remaining balance being split among the charities according to how many votes they receive.

The 12 charities are: Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo, Bermuda Diabetes Association, Bermuda Olympic Association, Bermuda Red Cross, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Coalition for the Protection of Children, Duke of Edinburgh, SCARS, Spirit of Bermuda, St John’s Ambulance, Warwick Academy Foundation and Windreach.

A further 12 organisations will be allowed to hold a tag day at a Rubis station next year.
