This year’s Police Gymkhana welcomed sweltering sunshine and plenty of pedalling action to Devonshire.

The traditional family day out on Police Field saw children frantically competing in a series of bicycle races, with ribbons and gift certificates up for grabs.

Held today from mid-morning to early afternoon, the event kicked off celebrations marking Police Week, which this year commemorates the 137th anniversary of the Bermuda Police Service.

Head organiser Sergeant Clifford Roberts said that the Gymkhana was the perfect way to foster ties between the BPS and the people of Bermuda.

“Children sometimes see police officers in a negative way nowadays,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“Today is a day for them to meet us and have fun.”

Police Week continues until Friday evening, when it will close with the Charity Casino Night at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect.
