Breast cancer awareness goes on road trip

A pedestrian crossing and speed bump in Hamilton has been turned pink in an effort to promote breast cancer awareness.

The eye-catching crossing on Par-la-Ville Road is just one part of Project Pink, created by Alaire Godfrey and Nikola Borden of Ultimate Imaging in 2012.

It received a fresh coat of paint courtesy of staff at the City of Hamilton, and is expected to remain pink for the rest of the month.

The location also has a new pink sign, advising motorists to “feel the bump”.

Meanwhile, next Thursday a special cocktail party is scheduled to be held in the International Building in honour of those who have been afflicted or affected by breast cancer.

Attendees will hear from survivors and learn about the benefits of mammography and breast cancer awareness in “a relaxed and social environment”. The free event is scheduled to begin at 5.30pm, and will include cocktails and appetisers.

Women over 40 are encouraged to schedule an annual mammogram.
