Hamilton was awash with local lawyers yesterday afternoon for the third annual Legal Fraternity Charity Walk fundraiser.

Organised by the Bar Council, the event from 4.30pm saw about 100 people walking and jogging around the Bermudian capital — beginning at the Supreme Court and ending at Docksiders Pub.

Participants, which also included support staff, contributed a $25 entry fee each to join in. Companies, meanwhile, were asked to make donations of $250 and upwards.

Money raised will be split evenly between the Coalition for the Protection of Children’s breakfast for every child programme and CedarBridge Academy’s school lunch drive.

Richard Horseman, president of the Bermuda Bar Association, said event organisers were hoping to smash the $10,000 total raised by each of the previous walks.

“The law firms do fundraising events individually, but it’s nice for the BBA as a whole to do something for charity,” he added.

Director of Public Prosecutions Larry Mussenden was participating in the walk for the first time, as he was overseas during the past two events.

“People think lawyers are very serious, but this is fun,” he said. “I’m really happy to be here today, and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported the walk.”

Crown counsel Loxley Ricketts said: “I’m enjoying myself; it’s a very relaxed atmosphere and the weather is perfect — not too hot and not too cold.

“The event is good at building camaraderie among the Bar and it supports a worthy cause.”

Donations by cash or cheque (payable to the Bermuda Bar Association) may be delivered to the Bermuda Bar Office in the S.E. Pearman Building, Par-la-Ville Road.
