A Warwick Academy student has won the prestigious RSPCA Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 award.

Year 11 pupil Zebedee Wakely took top prize in the 12-15 age group category, flew to London last night and this morning was informed he had taken first place at a ceremony in the Tower of London.

“His photo is of a very rare Ornate Ghost Pipe fish which was taken off the Island of Bohol in the Philippines,” said Warwick Academy’s Jane Vickers. “These fish love to hide and this one only came into view as the surge swayed the white anemone that it was sheltering under.

“The contrast between the fish and the anemone is fantastic but the fish has an excellent camouflage pretending to be soft coral polyps.”
