A new online video launching this week will provide a look into the life of a prolific Bermuda author.

The work, “depicting the unique legacy” of Brian Burland, will go online tomorrow at noon.

“[The video] is a vibrant new addition to Bermuda’s cultural landscape,” Dr Angela Barry, co-chairwoman of the Brian Burland Collection Committee, said in a release.

“We’re hopeful that Bermuda’s students, residents, and visitors with an interest in local culture will visit the Brian Burland Centre of Research, and find this a refreshing, unique and inspiring part of our literary history.”

Launched in May 2013, the Centre looks to “encourage and inspire” emerging local writers using Mr Burland’s diverse body of work, some of which dates back to before the 1950s. The numerous works — including unpublished novels, poems, and manuscripts — was endowed to Bermuda College by Mr Burland’s daughter Dr Susan Burland.

“Most of the collection at the time had never been seen before, much less studied, and the Brian Burland Collection Committee is hopeful that the YouTube launch will stimulate interest in the man and his literary prowess, as well as the Centre housing his works,” the organisation said.

Bermuda Media’s Ian Coles oversaw production of the work, with the video’s original score provided by John Woolridge.

Minister of Social Development and Sport Sylvan Richards will be in attendance at a media event tomorrow morning.
