Opposition Senate leader Renee Ming has raised concerns about the lack of funding going towards support groups for women.

Ms Ming voiced fears that there was no funding going towards the Women’s Resource Centre and the Physical Abuse Centre as senators debated the budget for the Ministry of Social Development and Sports on Friday.

“We need to make sure that women’s issues are not going unnoticed and unfunded,” Ms Ming said.

“I was concerned to see that there was no funding in the budget for the WRC and the PAC; they both play intrinsical parts in monitoring the psychological side of dealing with a myriad of issues women can face.

“We hope that these figures can be reversed and that we can provide support for the bodies that support women.”
