Muslim community holds awareness exhibition

Members of a small Muslim movement in Bermuda will hold an exhibition today as part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the real meaning of Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community will be at Kindley Field Road, in the open area, before the roundabout and swing bridge to St George, from 9am to 7pm.

The exhibit is part of the community’s True Islam campaign, which aims to remove the misconceptions people may have about Islam in the wake of terrorist attacks around the world.

Spokeswoman Shabnam Jheengoor told The Royal Gazette: “Islam strongly condemns cruelty and, thus, those who cause terror and disorder. Terrorism and extremism, therefore, has no place in Islam.

“The exhibit will include the various teachings of Islam on peace, interfaith harmony, gender equality and so on. Copies of the Holy Koran with English and Portuguese translations will also be available and will be offered free to the public.

“This is an opportunity for people to learn about Islam from its original and authentic source, the Holy Koran, and from the blessed example of the one who was a perfect embodiment of Islamic teachings, the Holy Prophet Muhammad.”

She said people would also be able to learn more about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and its founder, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
