Sponsors save Canada Day party

The annual Canada Day beach party is set to rock Warwick Long Bay again after a group of sponsors stepped forward.

While the future of the event was up in the air after the Association of Canadians in Bermuda gave up their charitable status, president Jennifer Campbell said several sponsors rapidly answered their call for support.

“As soon as The Royal Gazette article ran we heard almost immediately from Surface Trends, and then pretty much immediately after that we heard from the Green family,” she said.

“We are just thrilled. We are very happy for the support.”

Mrs Campbell said that Hamilton Princess Hotel and Beach Club had earned the title of platinum sponsor for the event, while Freisenbruch-Meyer, Surface Trends and Intelligent Automation Solutions have also come forward to keep the event alive.

“Now we are just praying for good weather and everything seems to be falling into place,” she said.

While organisers are still looking for support, Mrs Campbell said they were now on the lookout for those willing to donate their time as volunteers to keep the event running smoothly and ensure the beach is left in pristine condition.

“We are very aware that there have been some beach bashes that have happened at the beach that don’t leave it in a very good state, and we are very determined to not be those people,” she said.

“We are working with Keep Bermuda Beautiful, and we will have trash and recycling bins, and we are urging people to take their trash off the beach with them and to use reusable containers.”
