A ten-year-old Bermuda Institute student has proven it is never too early to reach for your dreams by launching his own business.

Rickai Lightbourne has always loved drawing and now some of his best designs will be emblazoned on his very own T-shirts as part of the business Kool Toon Tees.

T-shirts are available for boys and girls from Fryday’s Restaurant in Bermudiana Arcade and can be ordered online via the Facebook page KoolToonTees.

Rickai told The Royal Gazette: “I started it about six months ago — it just came naturally. I really like doing art and I thought about what people do in their everyday lives and they wear T-shirts.

“I like drawing cartoons that are original to my name and they are in a kind of old, retro style. There are T-shirts for girls and boys from as young as three months and up to 18 years.”

Rickai’s Godmother Giselle Muhammad said: “Rickai loves drawing cartoons and he decided to turn it into a business. It was all his own idea, he is very business minded. His mom does graphic design as well so he gets it from his mom — he is a very creative little boy. He just has such an incredible entrepreneurial spirit he comes up with different cartoon characters and scenarios and designs them on paper and using computer software.”

Rickai’s mother Sloane Wilson and friend Aaliyah Muhammad are also helping him out with the business.

He held a lunch event at Fryday’s Restaurant in Bermudiana Arcade this month and made lots of sales. “He was telling me he has enough money now to buy some games,” Ms Muhammad said.

Asked what he wants to do when he is older, Rickai said: “I want to be a graphic designer and I’d like to design merchandise as well as T-shirts.”
