Hurricane fundraiser postponed

A fundraiser for hurricane relief efforts has been postponed because of low ticket sales.

The Gosling’s Happy Hour for a Cause organised with the Bermuda Red Cross was set to take place tomorrow but has been rescheduled to October 6.

The Bermuda Red Cross said: “In order to maximise the generosity of our sponsors, it was felt that we should ensure the ticket sales are high so that we can raise as much money as possible to assist the Islands affected by the hurricanes.

“The need for assistance in the islands will be ongoing for many months and even years, so do not despair that the funds will not get there in time.”

The statement added that the event was postponed because “the ticket sales are very low”.

It said: “Gosling’s have given us an alternative date of Friday, October 6.

“We apologise to those who have already purchased tickets, but hope they can join us on the new date.

“Of course, we will refund anyone if they cannot attend on the new date.”

The fundraiser was organised by Gosling’s and the Bermuda Red Cross after Hurricane Harvey pummeled Texas last month and Hurricane Irma tore through the Caribbean earlier this month.

Some of the same countries hit by Irma, a Category 5 storm, have again been devastated by Hurricane Maria — the second major hurricane to affect the area this month.

All of the proceeds from the event will go towards the hurricane relief fund.

Tickets cost $60 and the price includes drinks and food.

They will also be available at the door for an additional $10.
