Two seamen faced a total of six charges Friday after sail training boat Spirit of Bermuda was involved in a collision with a Bermuda government ferry last month.

Torian Morrissey, 30, of Warwick, and the pilot of ferry Resolute, was charged with failing to maintain a proper lookout, failing to take action to avoid a collision, failing to navigate at a safe speed and failing to navigate at a safe distance.

James Doughty, 32, of Paget, was charged with failing to maintain a proper lookout and failing to take action to avoid a collision.

Mr Doughty was operating Spirit of Bermuda. The incident happened in Dundonald Channel off Sandys on September 8. Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges in Magistrates’ Court and were released on $3,000 bail each.

The case was scheduled to return to court on Monday, November 20.
