New parks legislation is to be debated by MPs today in the House of Assembly — while controversial amendments to casino legislation are expected to be passed over.

A motion is to be brought by Government Whip Michael Weeks for the House to approve the report of the Standing Orders and Privileges Committee.

David Burt, the Premier, said earlier the committee was tasked with drafting changes to establish Premier’s Question Time.

An early priority for the committee was also said to be approving a code of conduct for MPs.

MPs are to discuss the Land Title Registration Amendment Act 2017 in today’s session.

They are also to debate the Bermuda National Parks Amendment Act 2017, which makes amendments to the first schedule parks and nature reserves under the original Act, as well as the composition of the Parks Commission.

The Bermuda National Parks No 2 Amendment Act 2017 “makes amendments to provide for the validation of fees and provides a provision for the minister to order to waive fees due to impromptu or in exceptional circumstances”, a Public Works spokeswoman said.

In addition, Mr Burt is to bring an order for the layout of the island’s constituencies — while Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, will lay papers on the Bermuda Educators Council for the consideration of the House.

Health minister Kim Wilson is to update the House on the modernisation of Bermuda’s drug schedules, and Wayne Caines, the Minister of National Security, is to speak on the Bermuda Government’s cryptocurrency initiative.
