An Air Europa Airlines flight had to make an unscheduled stopover in Bermuda after storm conditions made it impossible for the aircraft to land at New York’s JFK airport.

Ice and winds at JFK meant the airport had to be temporarily closed on Thursday as severe winter weather made its way up the East Coast.

The Airbus 330-200 aircraft from Madrid landed at LF Wade International Airport at around 10pm on Saturday.

The flight’s 287 passengers and crew spent the night at three local hotels.

The flight took off for its original destination just before 5pm yesterday.
