Kamani Tait is on a mission to change the way people view their own health.

Mr Tait, a botanist and nutritionist from the US who will deliver a lecture tomorrow, is “passionate about getting people back to nature”.

On his first visit to the island with wife, Laree Gardner, Mr Tait said he was intrigued by Bermuda’s “hybrid” environment.

He explained: “Bermuda has many of the same plants that we see in the States, and plants from a more tropical environment.

“Whenever I go to a new area I get involved in the environmental landscape.”

Mr Tait, who runs Green Life Botanicals, said he had a special relationship with plants.

He added: “I might have never heard of a plant before, but they reveal themselves to me.

“Plants even come to me in dreams.”

His lecture tomorrow at 5pm will be held at CedarBridge Academy’s Ruth Seaton James Auditorium.

Mr Tait, who also uses the name KT the Arch Degree, learnt about plant-based medicine and dietary habits from his mother, Annette Thomas, who travelled back to her native St Croix to give birth.

She met and ultimately married Alfredo Darrington Bowman, a herbalist and practitioner of holistic medicine known as Dr Sebi,

He said: “She was blown away by Dr Sebi’s ability to get across in layman’s terms the power of their own bodies.”

Part of the lecture will explain the electrical nature of the body and how plants affect health.

Mr Tait stressed: “I do not profess to be a healer. I am a consultant.”

“People are the healers — the body has a powerful intelligence to do what it needs to do.”
