A 69-year-old carriage driver died last night after he suffered serious injuries in a crash.

Howard Charles was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after the accident, but died of his injuries.

The two horses pulling the carriage were put down at the scene by a veterinarian.

The crash happened on Devonshire’s Brighton Hill Road near its junction with Middle Road at about 3.20pm.

Police said no other vehicles were involved and traffic was diverted away from the area for several hours.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
