Crash driver released on bail

The driver arrested after a crash that injured six people on Monday night has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after the car hit a wall and flipped over on Middle Road, Smith’s near Whitney Institute, at about 10.20pm.

Today, police said three of the passengers continue to recover at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

One 18-year-old woman remains in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit, and another 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man continue are in stable condition on a general ward.

Two more male passengers and the driver were treated and released from hospital.
