The Athletic Club will kick off its annual Thinner Winner contest on Saturday.

Participants aim to lose eight to ten pounds each — more than 1,000 pounds in total — over the course of six weeks.

Organisers say Thinner Winner tries to keep fitness “fun” by having people team up in groups of four to six working together, with a personal coach, to motivate and keep each other accountable.

It launches at Victoria Park, with a finale party planned for the same venue on May 19, when Bermuda Heroes will provide the entertainment.

Thinner Winner workouts will take place on Thursdays at 6pm in Victoria Park from April 12 to May 10.

Qualified trainers will put participants through their paces, and community members are welcome to attend.

Participants will have access to The Athletic Club fitness centre, classes and spa during the programme.

Nutritional express sessions will be held weekly including group discussions on nutrition, menus and improved eating plans.

Weekly sessions will also be held for people who want to learn to left weights properly.

At the end of the six weeks, the team that loses the greatest percentage of weight and inches wins $2,000.

The Athletic Club owner Kym Herron Scott said: “We are honoured to help shape up Bermuda for the fifth year.

“It’s a win-win situation. The challenge helps reduce healthcare costs, improves work productivity and creates happier, healthier Bermudians.”
