Tourist saved after falling into ocean

A female tourist was recovering in hospital yesterday after her rental scooter struck a wall near Scaur Hill, throwing her into the ocean 15ft below.

The visitor, believed to be a 44-year-old South Carolina woman, was briefly knocked out in the accident at around 6.50pm on Somerset Road, Sandys, near the junction with Morgan Hill, on Monday evening.

According to a police spokesman, off-duty officers in the area came to her aid, and she soon regained consciousness before being taken to hospital.

As of yesterday morning, the woman was listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

Inquiries continue, and witnesses who have not come forward are asked to contact Constable Keola Thompson on the main police telephone number, 295-0011.
