Stamp of approval for iconic bag
Iconic Bermuda bags with cedar handles are featured on a new commemorative postage stamp issued today.
The Bermuda Post Office has issued a stamp series with the 1970s fashion item — a popular gift item for decades.
A Post Office spokesman said: “The bag gained name recognition to rival that of Bermuda shorts.
“It became so coveted as a fashionable accessory, it was copied overseas and became known simply as the ‘Bermuda bag’.
“This iconic bag is a tribute to the Bermudians who carved it, sewed it and marketed it, as well as to individuals everywhere who admired, acquired and preserved it.”
