The Bermuda Sloop Foundation and YouthNet will benefit from a fundraising Christmas tree drive.

Under the BermudaXmasTrees programme, businessmen bring a container of Christmas trees to the island to sell to the public, with any profits going to charity. In the eight years since the idea was launched, it has generated $67,000 in donations to local charities.

Peter Schindel, of main sponsor Brickyard, said: “BermudaXmasTrees was a way for Bermuda Brickyard to give back to the community, while at the same time providing a Christmas tree at a low price.

“The purpose is to assist local charities that focus on Bermuda’s youth, to help them grow, learn and understand the value of charity work, they who are a vulnerable group who need our support.”

Co-founder Phil Martin said: “BermudaXmasTrees gives the community a way to support local charities while at the same time having a beautiful Christmas tree at a reasonable cost. The selected charities focus on Bermuda youth, the idea is to help them learn, grow and ultimately be great citizens of Bermuda.”

Advanced Services is the web developer and website host

George Botelho, the Advanced Services project manager, said: “With a successful track record of selling Christmas trees online spanning eight years, I am sure that this year will also be a success as the public easily and securely purchases their Christmas trees on the BermudaXmasTrees website It is a pleasure to know that Advanced Services can contribute to worthy charities that have a positive impact on our community.”

This year’s Christmas trees are due to arrive on November 30 and can be picked up or delivered on December 1 from Bermuda Brickyard, on Mill Reach Lane. To order, visit bermudaxmastrees.com.
