Image from the Bermuda Weather Service

Leslie was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane this morning.

The meandering storm is not predicted to threaten the island, although rough seas mean a small craft warning remains in effect.

Strong winds today are forecast to gradually ease by tomorrow night, according to the Bermuda Weather Service.

At noon today, Leslie was 510 miles east-southeast of Bermuda and was stationary, with winds of 75mph gusting to 98mph.

Its closest point of approach in the next 72 hours was predicted to be 460 miles east of the island tomorrow at 3pm.
