Police call for witnesses to gun incidents

Witnesses to recent firearms incidents are being asked to come forward.

Police have made a fresh appeal for witnesses to the Friswells Hill shooting on Tuesday evening to come forward.

The incident is believed to have been gang related and detectives continue to investigate its circumstances.

A spokesman said: “We would like to thank members of the public for their assistance so far and renew the appeal for anyone with information regarding this latest shooting, which occurred around 10:40pm Tuesday, to come forward.

“The Bermuda Police Service is aware of the concerns of area residents and only hours before Tuesday night’s shooting held a community awareness meeting at the National Stadium Pavilion regarding recent antisocial behaviour in the neighbourhood.

“However, tackling antisocial behaviour is not just a job for the police alone — the support of the community and relevant helping agencies is also vitally important.”

Police are also calling on witnesses to a shooting on Thursday evening on Roberts Avenue in Devonshire near Derwent Lane South to come forward.

The shooting resulted in a 28-year-old man being injured.

Anyone with information regarding the shootings should call Detective Sergeant Jason Smith on 717-0864.

Anonymous calls can be made to the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline, 800-8477. Anonymous tips can also be sent through the Crime Stoppers Bermuda website www.crimestoppers.bm
