Home-grown singing star Heather Nova will perform with other island acts at the Bermuda Festival next year.

Ms Nova will join vocalists Sheila Smith and Gita Blakeney-Saltus for the event, which starts in January.

Broadway star Rebecca Faulkenberry, The Queen’s Six, Frisson Ensemble, Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company and Tony nominee Mary Bridget Davies’s tribute to Janis Joplin are among the other acts confirmed.

Soul superstar Chaka Khan and jazz vocal group The Manhattan Transfer were earlier revealed as headline acts for the festival, which highlights the work of women in music and entertainment.

Chaka Khan, whose hits include I’m Every Woman, has now been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2019.

T.J. Armand, executive director of the festival, said: “We are delighted to receive the news that Chaka Khan, our 2019 featured international artist, is once again nominated for one of the highest honours in the world of music.

“She is a true legend and she’s nominated among other artists such as Radiohead, Janet Jackson, The Cure and Todd Rundgren.”

The 44th Annual Bermuda Festival for the Performing Arts will begin with The Manhattan Transfer on January 19.

Other entertainment will include Christina Ham’s play Nina Simone — Four Women, Terrence McNally’s Tony-winning play Master Class, and the Shakespeare On The Rock production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Family entertainment includes The Amazing Bubble Man, the hit comedy Next Hit Musical and the On Stage Competition.

The festival will run between January 19 and March 9. For tickets, dates, venues and membership information, visit BermudaFestival.org.
