An environmental charity and a green energy firm have launched a competition for schoolchildren as the island looks to the future of power generation.

Greenrock and solar power company BeSolar will offer cash prizes for the best response to alternative energy plans submitted to the Regulatory Authority, The deadline for entries is November 23 at 5pm and there is a top prize of $300. Responses in support, or against, any of the plans submitted must explain the respondent’s stance. Submissions must also include reasons why a supported plan would cut Bermuda’s contribution to climate change and can use words and illustrations.

A spokesman for the competition said: “The goal is to get awareness out and to encourage students to participate in a process that concerns their future from both a climate change and local energy supply perspective.”

There are four topic options for essay and picture submissions including how a plan is in line with the goal to limit global warming.
