A series of events will mark the 75th anniversary of a traditional sailboat race.

The Edward Cross Long Distance Comet Race will reach the milestone with its annual race on National Heroes Day on Monday.

Celebrations will kick off with a discussion on African-Bermudian maritime history at the East End Mini Yacht Club today at 6pm.

The discussion will hear how Bermudians were involved in all aspects of the maritime industry for many years before the long-distance race.

People will share their family stories of Bermudians on the sea.

It will be followed by a members’ social event at the West End Sailboat Club on Friday evening.

The Mid Atlantic Boat and Sports Club will host a children’s day on Saturday, from 12pm to 5pm, featuring bouncy castles, games and food.

A memorial service will be held at WESC to honour all sailors who have died on Sunday at 9am.

The Edward Cross Long Distance Comet Race will start from WESC at 11am on Monday, ending at EEMYC.
