People out on the water at the weekend were today warned to avoid the course for the Around the Island powerboat race.

Police said that swimmers and divers should keep out of the racecourse for the event, which is scheduled to start at 2pm on Sunday.

Divers were also asked to make sure that their dive sites were marked with a buoy.

A police spokesman said that the Bermuda Power Boat Association had strict safety rules for racers and members of the public.

Racers have also been told to avoid coming too close to shore in the Elbow Beach area of Paget.
