Boats are being evacuated from the Dockyard marina and stored on land ahead of Hurricane Humberto’s approach to the island, Wedco has advised.

Joanna Cranfield, Wedco’s business development manager, warned motorists to take care in Dockyard as a result.

Ms Cranfield said: “We are closely monitoring the progress of Hurricane Humberto, which is currently due to be a Category 2 storm at its closest point to Bermuda.

“As part of our standard hurricane preparation plan, boats are stored on the South Basin, the North Rock car park and in between the buildings on Smithery Lane.

“Due to this, these areas will be closed to the public.

“Clocktower Parade, in front of the Clocktower Mall, will be temporarily reopened to facilitate traffic flow.

“We would like to thank the public in advance for their co-operation and patience.”

Wedco staff are checking the buildings and grounds at Dockyard, and will take any necessary precautions.

No decision has yet been made on closures but Wedco will provide an update once more is known about the hurricane and its path.

The updates will be posted on the website www.dockyardbermuda.com/wedco/ as well as Wedco’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
