Lecture series on ‘Kid’ Corbin’s role in golf

A Bermudian credited with helping to break down racial barriers in golf will be the focus of an event this week. Louis Rafael “Kid” Corbin will be discussed at a lecture series to be held at the Ocean View Golf Club on Wednesday. Jeffrey Sammons, the author of the book Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin: Breaking Golf’s Colour Line in America, Canada and Bermuda will host the event. Kim Swan, a Progressive Labour Party backbencher, will join Dr Sammons for the discussion. Lovitta Foggo, the Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sport, said that the event will “chronicle the life of Louis Raphael Corbin, who broke down barriers and pushed through adversity”.She added: “The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs assisted in Dr Sammons’s research on ‘Kid’ Corbin, and this week’s lecture series will offer significant insights into this Bermudian sports legend. “We are encouraging interested individuals to come and hear the conversation, which we believe is relevant and important for our contemporary times.”• The free event is open to all and begins at 6pm.
