Mother Nature was at the top of her game this past Saturday providing perfect weather for the Second Annual “Pink Links Fore the Cure” Charity Golf Tournament hosted by Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa, in partnership with the LPGA-AGA Bermuda Chapter.More than 22 teams came out swinging to help raise $20,000 for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre which provides the highest standard of care when it comes to early detection, prevention, treatment and education programs for the residents of Bermuda. “This year’s tournament was a huge success and we are thrilled to have not only exceeded last year’s donation, but to have reached our goal of raising $20,000 for an organization that matters to so many in Bermuda,” said Karen Doyle, owner of Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa. “We are thankful to everyone -- from our incredibly hardworking staff and partner LPGA-AGA to our generous sponsors and participants -- who continue to help us grow our tournament into what is becoming a fun and enjoyable fundraising event.” Main sponsors of this year’s event included Gosling’s (Gold), Pompano Beach Club (Silver) and Carey Olsen and One Communications (Bronze), while featured tee and green sponsors were Bermuda Cleaning, Centre on Philanthropy, Coco Reef, LPGA-AGA Bermuda Chapter and Rosé Island’s, “Bodvar House of Rosés. Events surrounding the tournament began on Friday evening, October 25, with a Happy PINK Hour at Newstead’s pool bar and terrace 27 Harbour which was turned into a pink paradise. More than 150 guests danced the night away to music by DJ Rusty G while enjoying specialty pink drinks by Gosling’s and food by Beau Rivage. The pink theme continued on Saturday when the tournament kicked off at Belmont Hills Golf Club with a continental breakfast at Divots followed by an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on the course featuring pink bunkers, yes, pink bunkers. The day concluded with a reception, tournament prizes and check donation ceremony. “We are delighted to partner with Newstead Belmont Hills and its “Pinks Links Fore the Cure” golf tournament which helps support and fund our programmes and services that are so beneficial to our community,” said Lynne Woolridge, chief executive officer of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. “This year’s donation of $20,000 will go towards supplementing our Equal Access Fund, which ensures that everyone is able to utilize our services, regardless of their health insurance status.”Everyone who played in the tournament was a winner for helping support such a great cause, but prizes were awarded to those who stood out amongst the rest. The first place winners included Kyle Lightbourne, Alex McLaughlin, Douglas Brown and Martin Spaight; Second place winners included Delton White, Colin Swan, Mark Ray and Allan Wilkinson; and third place winners were Anthony Bascome, Azeem Pitcher, Damon Rabain and Jeffrey Tyrell. Tina Caesar Robinson and Blip Morris won for closest to the pin, while longest drive honours went to Cheri Minors and Cal Hendrickson.
