Chef Chiko donates $2,000 to Ehsan’s family

A two-year-old boy with cerebral palsy received an extra festive boost with a $2,000 donation to help make life easier for him.Ehsan Smith Perinchief will benefit from the funds after charitable chef Michiko Campbell held a Christmas dinner for hundreds of people.The toddler has spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, a condition that limits the movement of his arms and legs.He also suffers from epilepsy and hypothyroidism, which leads to symptoms associated with a slow metabolism.Alyssa Smith, Ehsan’s mother, said: “The severity of his condition is unknown. “Because he is still very young and shows great drive and determination, we believe that with therapy and assistive devices he will one day do everything he dreams of doing.”She added: “This just made my day. Honestly I feel like I was chosen to do this; to educate, empower and advocate for people who can’t for themselves. “Anytime I meet someone who says that’s they’ve learnt something from our journey, I feel like we’ve done our job.”Mr Campbell, a sous chef at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in Hamilton and the maker of Chiko’s Smokey Rub, held his free meal-giving and fundraising event on December 22, when more than 900 people enjoyed a hot festive dinner.Guests at Albuoy’s Point were treated to music and gift packs were available for those in need.Mr Campbell said: “I know that being a parent all we want is the best for our kids. Mr Campbell added: “I am happy to give this donation to aid in providing Ehsan with anything else he may need. “Ehsan smiled when I showed him the cheque. That made my day.”It was the last time the chef will hold the charity event during the Christmas period as he plans to move it to the summer.Mr Campbell thanked all of the volunteers and this year’s sponsors, including the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, DE Mortimer & Co, Butterfield & Vallis, Viking Food, Dunkley’s and Bermuda Sign Printers.Crow Lane Bakery, Atlantic Cleaning & Maintenance, SAS Protection Services, Butterball, DJ Danger Don, Jesse Seymour and Gary Robinson — “The Balloon Man” — also helped. Further thanks went to DT Plumbing, Rellz Hott Graphics, The Design Studio, The Chef Shop, Cripps Foundation, BGA, Validus Re, Portraits Afrique, Dandy Town Youth Academy as well as Lorraine Bridges, Cynthia Card, Ms Berquist and other anonymous donors.
