Spotlight on ‘digital leadership’

The pluses and pitfalls of life online are the focus of a conference, running tomorrow and Friday, with 800 middle and high school students invited to attend.Brought by the Bermuda Government’s Department of ICT Policy and Innovation, the third annual Cybertips Digital Leadership Conference will be held at the Fairmont Southampton resort.It also features a free evening event on restorative practices in schools, aimed at teachers and parents.David Burt, the Premier, said young people had taken part in its planning and delivery.Sloane Johnson, acting junior analyst at the department and an organiser of the conference, said it would cover “social impact and community engagement, leadership, business and entrepreneurship, law and advocacy, game design and development, media arts and more”.A steering committee of representatives from schools worked with Ms Johnson on organising the event, which includes dealing with cyberbullying.According to a statement, the steering committee members also took advice from local and international experts.
