Pupils won praise for their artwork and helped win cash prizes for their schools.More than 70 pieces of artwork were entered into the Annual Art and Digital Competition, organised by the Mirrors Alumni & Friends Association and Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.Pupils completed most of their work from home during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the theme “Home — exploring different notions of what constitutes a feeling of belonging”.Artwork, which included nine digital art submissions, was displayed at Masterworks in July and August. Schools received a total of $3,300 in prize money. Attorney-General Kathy Lynn Simmons presented the awards at a ceremony hosted by the Mirrors Programme during the weekend.She said: “Self-expression is one of the key values of the Mirrors Programme. Expressing oneself through art of any form is an ideal way for youth to share their stories, express their ideas, gain confidence and connect with other people that translates into success throughout the developmental years to adulthood.”First place winners were Xion Smith of Purvis Primary School; Alexa Matthie of Clearwater Middle School; and Indio Francis of Bermuda Institute.Second place were Seri Fisher of Warwick Academy; Legend Stevenson of Sandys Middle School; and Priel Minors of CedarBridge Academy.Third place were Althea Faith Sevilla of Purvis; Zori Weeks of Dellwood Middle School; and Naryn Isaac of Impact Mentoring Academy.Individual Digital Art winner was Kayla Caldwell of Mount Saint Agnes Academy; followed by Amber Furtado of Mount St Agnes in second place and Mica Cook of Mount St Agnes in third.People’s Choice winners were Seri Fisher, Alexa Matthie and Indio Francis.School prizes were as follows:• Purvis Primary School: $500• Somerset Primary School: $350• Warwick Academy: $250• Bermuda High School for Girls: $1,000• Clearwater Middle School: $350• Dellwood Middle School: $250• Bermuda Institute: $350• Mount Saint Agnes Academy $1,800
