Tre Houston finished sixth in heat seven of the 200 metres in a time of 20.84sec at the Olympic Stadium today.

Houston, whose personal best is 20.42, had set himself an ambitious target to finish as one of the top two qualifiers to reach the semi-finals.

Nery Brenes of Croatia won the heat in 20.20 and Churandy Martina of Holland came second in 20.29.

Houston said: “I’m walking away with a smile on my face because a lot of people dream about this but don’t get this far.

“My target was to PB but I ran a 20 point and as long as I don’t see a 21 on the clock then I’m happy.

“I’m a consistent 20-point runner and I’m breaking through slowly. I’m an Olympian now.”
