Constituency 26 goes to polls on December 20

Voters in Warwick South Central, Constituency 26, will return to the polls on December 20 to choose a replacement for Marc Bean, the former Leader of the Opposition who retired from politics this month.

The Parliamentary Registrar informed this morning that Acting Governor Ginny Ferson has issued a writ of election, paving the way for the Progressive Labour Party and the ruling One Bermuda Alliance to make official their candidates for an area seen to be a PLP stronghold. Nomination day will be on December 5.

Bean defeated photographer Ras Mykkal by 507-272 in the 2012 General Election, when there was a 66 per cent turnout from 1,191 registered voters in the area.

Registration for voters living in Constituency 26 will close on Monday at 5pm. Voters can register online at www.elections.gov.bm or at the Parliamentary Registration office in Craig Appin House, third floor, 8 Wesley Street, Hamilton.

The polling place on by-election day will be St Mary’s Church Hall.
